VISION AND POLICY

Student services

The student experience is largely affected by the services that are provided by the University. There are three main focuses within the realm of student services.

Dining

On-campus dining is a large part of the college experience. There is always room to improve dining options. Hannah will work to increase 24-hour and evening dining options for those students that are on campus for extended hours.

Additionally, Hannah is excited to form a partnership with Chartwells to implement “12th Plan”. Every year, millions of dollars of purchased meal trades go unused. The 12th Plan would allow students to “opt in” to a program that allows a portion of their unused meal plans to be donated to a local food bank. This is a fantastic and simple way for students to positively impact the Bryan/College Station community.

Transportation

A growing student population requires attentiveness to ensure that all students are able to access efficient transportation options. Hannah plans to work with Transportation Services to continually improve transportation, as well as educate students on what resources are available to them.

Football Ticket Pull

Currently, there are limited resources available to students regarding ticket pull processes. Hannah will work with Texas A&M Athletics and the 12th Man Foundation to simplify and educate students on the logistics of ticket pull.

campus beautification

There are a number of campus beautification topics that will be raised within the next year.

Master Plan

The Campus Master Plan is in the process of being updated and revised. As a representative on the Council for Built Environment Committee, Hannah is currently included in focus groups and subcommittees to provide a voice for students on issues such as signage, sustainability, and design. Hannah will continue representing students to ensure that our campus is as student friendly as possible.

legislative agenda

The Texas Legislature will be in session in 2017. While the Legislature is in session, many of the actions taken and bills passed by lawmakers will directly affect students that attend public universities in the State of Texas. With this in mind, Hannah will work with Student Senate and University Administration to ensure that Texas A&M’s students are accurately represented in all issues pertaining to them. Some topics of importance are:

  • tax-free textbooks

  • increasing funding and awareness for mental health services on campus

  • medical amnesty laws

As well as any other topics that may arise relating to students.

Additionally, Hannah plans to continue the progress made by the current Legislative Relations Commissioner by maintaining an active relationship with other Student Governments to collectively advocate on behalf of all college students in Texas.

Increase Student Inclusion

The Student Government Association is tasked with representing all 58,000 students at our University. Hannah believes that there is significantly more that can be done to ensure that SGA is accurately gauging all students’ opinions and representing the entire student body. Thus, she plans to engage students through innovative platforms and reach out to historically underrepresented groups, working tirelessly to represent all students’ voices and opinions. Every single student at Texas A&M deserves to have their voice heard!
